Fadi Bidan a Syrian-born player currently based in Beirut Lebanon , who trains under the watchful eye of his father, is an overseas-supported player who we will see much more of soon.

He defeated Italian player Sebastiano Cocola 3 4 in a highly tactical and often tense final. Teta in fact won the most games off Vaishali in the tournament despite the relatively comfortable scoreline of A chance for everyone to let off some steam after a year of hard work, and also the opportunity for players to show off their cups, trophies and medals won in Every year the TA Champions Cup is awarded to the player winning the most singles tournaments in the calendar year.

We had a two-way tie in , but this year there were three players tied on thirteen tournament wins each Green ball and above , to make it the tightest finish ever.

The traditional tie-breaker is to see who has won more of the highest grade of tournament. By this criteria, Jaquelyn Ogunwale would have been the clear winner having won Grade 1, Grade 2 and international tournaments.

Agonisingly for her however, one tournament win had to be deducted from her total tally as there were only two entrants and the LTA had officially declared the match as "Ratings Only".

This left two players with near identical records, but in the final count, Dilhan Wasantha 2x International, 4x Grade 3, 4x Grade 4, 3x Grade 5 edged out Jake Evans 1x International, 5x Grade 3, 5x Grade 4, 2x Grade 5 by the narrowest of margins.

He scraped home by virtue of the one extra international tournament won, but kudos to all three players for their amazing efforts.

She burst onto the scene this year, won three Grade 2 national tournaments, was runner-up in the National Championships and finished as the No.

Having been ranked ranked No. Since then, she very deliberately and maturely allowed her tennis to take a back seat while she made a colossal effort with her studies.

This will be the springboard for her to put all her energies back into tennis when it really matters. It is to the enormous credit of her peers that they have recognised and valued her efforts, commitment and long-term thinking - and also an indication that they can see signs of her tennis now returning to the heights where it rightfully belongs.

For the second year running Vaishali has been recognised as the player making the greatest contribution to TA, and was the deserved winner by a huge majority.

Thursday 17th December -. A week of experience competing mostly against South American players proved very useful in the final where he defeated Costa Rican player Adrian Quiros Friday 11th December -.

He became stronger and stronger as the tournament progressed, and in the final he executed his tactics perfectly to defeat Nando Aranguiz of Chile Wednesday 9th December -.

Sunday 8th November -. Jaquelyn returned to Turkey this week for the Ten-Pro International tournament in Antalya and reached the final where she was due to meet the Smrikva Bowl winner, Alena Kasatkina of Russia.

She was denied the opportunity however as Alena withdrew, handing Jaquelyn a win by walkover. He has firmly consolidated his positon in the GB team for his age group, and is one of two players assured of selection for the important matches.

In the final Dilhan was leading Mikey Forrest when his opponent was disqualified by the referee for his behaviour, which meant that Dilhan won the match and tournament.

Meanwhile at the Totteridge Junior Open. Jaquelyn defeated Darya Osadova [], finishing the match off with a devastating tie-break.

Dilhan defeated a very stubborn and consistent Luca Bluett 6 [] in a match that was on a knife edge from start to finish. Having survived a three set rollercoaster of a semi-final match, Amelia proceeded to defeat Isabel McCullough in the final.

Saturday 24th October -. Having been invited to form a team to represent Champions Bowl Great Britain, TA took a strong group out to Turkey to compete against the national winners of the Champions Bowl in each participant country.

In its inaugural year, there were players from 16 different nations taking part, and we got EIGHT of our players onto the podium: Meanwhile Given Roach won the Girls event round-robin in Harlow despite just being 10 years old.

She too had to come back from behind against eventual runner-up Roksolana Werbowy, winning []. Sunday 20th September - New TA player Given Roach achieves her first tournament win since joining the academy at the beginning of the month.

Dilhan recovered from down, dealt well with the tiny margin for error offered by the new FAST 4 match format, and finally dominated the tie-break to win 0.

Wednesday 2nd September - Congratulations to 13 year old Jack Segens on his first ever tournament victory! Monday 31st August - TA finish the season with both the No.

Alexandra McDonald claimed top spot with the No. An awesome achievement from the two girls who thoroughly dominated their age group in Great Britain this season.

She won by a walkover against Zeniece Hall in the junior event and in the open event she defeated fellow TA player Vaishali Jorge In Bedfordshire, siblings Jaquelyn left and Natalya Ogunwale kept four of the titles in the family.

Thursday 27th August -. Tennis Avenue players continue achieving unprecedented successes. This year it had the added prestige of serving as the national masters event for the Champions Bowl international junior tournament in Serbia, with the winner also being awarded a wildcard into the Smrikva Bowl tournament.

In this context, it is a remarkable achievement for Dilhan Wasantha to go out there and come away with victory after some very hard-fought matches.

In his second round match he had to recover from down in both sets before winning In the final he faced top seed David Rakic, a strong opponent who refused to give away any cheap points in the first set, with Dilhan having to produce outstanding tennis to win each point on the slow clay courts.

Having edged the first set he managed to maintain an iron grip on the match until the Serbian boy lost his belief. Dilhan emerged with a victory, as well as not one but the two biggest cups he has ever won - literally!

He played some excellent tennis and did not drop a set all tournament. In the final he defeated top seed Finbar McGarvey 1 for a well deserved victory.

Friday 21st August -. Jaquelyn Ogunwale right and Alexandra McDonald have dominated the age group this season, winning EVERY Grade 2 tournament between them and being the top two players in the country by some distance.

Indeed neither of them lost to any player of their own age group apart from each other. Each girl was therefore entitled to feel optimistic about their chances here, but at the semi-final stage both were given a fright by being taken to three sets.

They both needed to show some mettle in order to win their respective matches. In the final itself, Jaquelyn played some superb tennis to keep Alexandra at bay and never allowed her to get into a rhythm.

Jaquelyn managed to maintain a high level of tennis to the end, winning to become the worthy champion. She defeated top seed Jaynie Awcock 5 in a close final to claim the title.

In a final contested by the top two seeds, Jaquelyn eventually prevailed against Charlotte Tatham after a [] battle.

In a repeat of the Limpsfield final of last month, Dilhan faced Flynn Bolton in the final. The outcome was the same again, albeit with the more decisive scoreline of to Dilhan.

Alexandra maintained her upper hand with a victory. The ensuing three-way tie was decided on "games won percentage", ironically with the boy he lost to being eliminated in third place.

Dilhan then went on to play very well in his semi final, before defeating Ulrich Nienaber in the final, the same player he had beaten previously in his box and who had qualified in second place.

Saturday 8th August - At the Grade 4 Wigmore Open, two TA players win their first ever singles titles which we are sure will be the first of many for both of them.

After winning his first four matches with ease, the final also seemed destined for a quick finish when he took a lead. However his opponent Alexander Bradley Glinister had other ideas, storming to the second set without dropping a game.

In the end Thomas saved four match points before going on to win [] in a dramatic match tie-break. Friday 7th August - Camilia Samel-Druz wins her second successive tournament in Spain - this time in a Yellow ball tournament.

Winning all her matches in straight sets, she was particularly impressive in her final against good national player Ananya Vartak, winning They both reached the second round of the main draw in their respective events in Dundalk.

Camilia emphatically defeated Mar Talens Serra in the final. Full-court competitive opportunities have been limited for her, being born, but early indications from national camps and invitational events with the French Federation are that she is the No.

After a match of very high quality tennis and great sportsmanship from both players, Jake emerged as the winner to add another trophy to his growing collection.

A dominant showing in the event culminated with her defeating Daniella Page in the final. In the final he played fellow TA player Thomas Kavanagh who has been making huge strides of his own of late, but Jake was too strong on the day and won This time around Miles Speer left and Furqan Lawal battled it out in a tense final, with victory eventually being claimed by Furqan 5 The duo then teamed up to win the doubles event after a marathon three set match against Czech opponents.

Thursday 23rd July - After a couple of barren tournaments, unusual by his own high standards, Jake Evans returns to winning ways at the Grade 3 Dan Burden Memorial Tournament.

Sunday 19th July -. At the TeamBath CoMpete Open Tennis Festival, she defeated Francesca Davis in the final and she matches the feat of training partner Jaquelyn Ogunwale who had won the previous three Grade 2 tournaments in a row!

Between the two of them they have won six out of the seven Grade 2s in She defeated Stephanie Vieira in the final and won all her matches in straight sets.

Indeed Dilhan had to make an astonishing. Saturday 12th July - Players, family and friends defy the wet and windy weather to produce a big turnout for our second annual TA Finals Day.

There were some excellent matches for everyone to enjoy, with the following players emerging as worthy TA Academy champions for Pictured below, clockwise from the back: Katie won the postponed final.

There were also a number of fun tie-break tournaments on the day which were just as keenly contested as the main tournament matches.

The Open Ties event adults only was won by Mr. Mark Ogunwale with his unique blend of spin, craft and confusion tactics. Friday 3rd July -.

The biggest story of the tournament was undoubtedly made by Miles Speer far left who had previously not won a tournament greater than LTA Grade 4 or equivalent - nor had he ever set foot on a clay court before.

He then played tennis of the highest quality to defeat Theo Allayous, one of the top 5 players in France, to clinch the title.

Dilhan was also deservedly recognised by the tournament organisers with a special award for his positive attitude and fighting spirit.

Sunday 28th June -. She breezed through to the final losing just five games in five matches. The final against Jasmine Conway was also looking a formality when Alexandra won the first set However drama followed as Jasmine won the second set and stormed into an lead in the match tie-break.

This only enabled Alexandra to demonstrate her fierce fighting spirit when called upon, and she emerged with a [] victory.

Just like his brother, Fadi was playing up in age groups being only 9 years old himself. In the 12s event he defeated Mustafa Natour and in the 14s he defeated Raul Yazbeck It is the first call-up for Natalya and she becomes the third TA player to represent GB in the past year.

Natalya and Jack each won three of their five matches, but this was not enough for their teams to win their respective events.

Sunday 31st May - Congratulations to our youngest, and most remote, winner! We will be hearing more about Giorgio, and his elder brother Fadi, in the not too distant future!

Saturday 30th May -. Jack Pinnington Jones scales new heights. It is an Under 13 tournament running parallel to the French Open and Jack is the first UK representative to reach the final in its six year history.

The week had begun with the Longines Academy, a two day training camp on clay, followed by the official draw ceremony.

In the final, Xiaofei Wang China proved a formidable opponent and was too strong for Jack on the day. Xiaofei won all the "no-ad" deuce points in the match, and in the end Jack was well beaten Longines, the main sponsors of the French Open, must be thanked for bringing these top players together and creating a magical week for all of them.

As one would expect from a high end watch manufacturer, the entire week was organised with style and clockwork precision.

Thursday 28th May - For the sixth consecutive day, not one but two TA players pick up tournament wins! The winning scoreline was []. Meanwhile at the Harlow Spring.

Wednesday 27th May - Proving that hard work does pay off, Miles Speer is rewarded for an exemplary block of training with victory at the Grade 4 Lensbury Open tournament.

She defeated Charlotte Laing in the final and will look forward to more successes in this age group before the summer is out.

She defeated Astrid Williams. Sunday 24th May -. Having won her first few matches comfortably, she then had to show some real mettle and resilience from the quarter final onwards, and eventually defeated Eva Shaw [] in the final.

To get a measure of this achievement it is worth noting that every single top 16 player in the national leaderboard was present barring one: We are fairly sure that there must be some unprecedented achievements in the midst of these statistics; they are certainly exceptional in any case.

Saturday 23rd May -. He also now has two doubles wins to his name. Jack is proving that he is at home on clay courts as well as on hard courts and his successes have been split equally between the surfaces.

In the Singles final here Jack defeated Romanian No. She did not have to work too hard in the final however as she received a walkover from Emilia Kalff.

Tuesday 5th May - Having struggled with injuries for much of the past year, Kieran Macarty makes a rare tournament appearance at the Grade 4 Magdalen Park Senior Open.

He duly lived up to his billing as the No. Kieran will now be hoping his injuries finally clear up and enable him to compete regularly on the Futures circuit.

Saturday 2nd May -. In the singles he lost out to Carlos Alcaraz Garfia of Spain, Meanwhile at the Top Bressuire tournament in France Natalya Ogunwale won four matches to reach the singles semi final stage before losing to French player Anaelle Leclerq 0.

Jake defeated top seed Toby Blackwell in the final [], his second epic tie-break victory in successive weeks.

Tuesday 14th April - Another player starting to play up an age group is Jaquelyn Ogunwale. At the Paddington Junior Open he won by the narrowest of margins, defeating Fabio Nestola in the final 6 [].

Monday 6th April -. In the Notts Junior Open Supported by Porsche, she won all her matches in straight sets, defeating Justice Hall in the final 3 Saturday 4th April -.

Having narrowly defeated Alexandra McDonald who ended up finishing 3rd in an all-TA semi final, Jaquelyn won her final against Romana Bari to make it a double celebration for her family.

It was a first national-level title for Natalya. She won all of her matches in straight sets, but the score in the final against Tiana Fox does not reveal the full story: Thursday 2nd April - Having waited eagerly to become age-eligible for Green ball tournaments in this country, Jake Evans wins the very first one he competes in.

It was not without a scare however as he found himself and three set points down in the first set before recovering to win.

Leah won all her matches comfortably in straight sets, and in the final she defeated Tatiana Mouzykantskii It is an especially impressive achievement bearing in mind that she still has one season remaining in the age group.

Sunday 22nd March -. Jack overcame a couple of scares on his way to the final, and the final itself was no different. Antalya is a happy hunting ground for TA players, having had one previous winner Mandi Furaji and a semi-finalist Roberto Preka.

Sunday 15th March - A richly deserved tournament win today for Furqan Lawal. In the final itself he received a big slice of fortune as his opponent had to retire at Furqan.

She succumbed to an inspired Matilda Mutavdzic who defeated her in the final by the narrowest of margins: Meanwhile Jaquelyn Ogunwale left won the consolation final by an even finer margin!

Jaquelyn defeated Catherine Hodge []. Sunday 22nd February -. In what has already been a highly successful few months for Jack Pinnington Jones , he delivers his greatest achievement yet: This is not just a regular Tennis Europe tournament but one with iconic status.

Celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year, Auray is in fact one of the marquee junior tournaments in the world. Its rich history is graced with players such as Nadal, Murray, Tsonga, Monfils, Gasquet, Henin, Clijsters, Mauresmo and many other top players who competed there as juniors many of whom did not get as far as the final.

The tournament is generally attended by the top two players in each country. Although Jack did not end up having to face them, he did have to face the Serbian No.

The final proved a step too far for Jack after all his exertions in the week and he succumbed to the Russian No. At the Bromley Tennis Centre Spring Tournament, she overcame a couple of tough three set matches before finally emerging victorious.

In the final she defeated Daisy Carpenter 4 []. Boys event with a victory over Tarique Tonge-Bobia. Sunday 15th February -.

She did so in emphatic fashion without dropping a single set - and she will now find herself top of the national leaderboard.

In the final here she defeated Sofia Johnson by the convincing scoreline of Jaquelyn still has one more season to go in this age group, so there is a lot more to come from her!

Sunday 15th February - Veska Czech Republic: Bearing in mind that this event pits the very best players in Europe against each other, this is a highly significant and impressive achievement.

In the quarter final against Switzerland TA player Jack Pinnington Jones centre right defeated Sacha Ouzilou 3 and also combined with Derrick Chen to win the doubles for a convincing team victory.

In the semi final they had to. Again Jack won his singles in straight sets, defeating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard With Derrick also winning his singles match, the team held an unassailable lead.

They therefore conceded the doubles rubber after three games in order to preserve energy for the final against Denmark - the same team that defeated them in the final of their qualification group.

When Jack played the same Danish opponent previously he lost in three sets after a 2 hour 15 minute match, but on this occasion he lost in straight sets.

Derrick also lost his singles match and Denmark were crowned champions. Sunday 1st February - Istanbul Turkey: The finals are going to be held in the Czech Republic in two weeks time.

In the final to decide first and second place, the team lost to Denmark with GBR losing both singles matches Jack losing in three sets.

However it was still a great achievement to qualify from a tough qualification draw that also included Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. Jack is the second TA player to represent the country in two months, winning one of his three singles matches.

Tuesday 6th January -. The Lemon Bowl International tournament in Rome draws to a conclusion. Having reached the final in typically rollercoaster fashion he found himself down against an extremely good Italian player named Luca Nardi.

Jack then threatened to turn the match on its head as he had done in an earlier round by saving three consecutive match points before winning.

This time he recovered to but was unable to win this crucial last game, eventually going down Jack nevertheless managed to come home with a very big cup filled with - lemons!

The tournament proved a great experience for a number of our youngest players who had not played many tournaments previously.

They showed a glimpse of how strong the next generation of TA players are going to be, and they also displayed superb camaraderie in supporting each other.

We were also delighted to have a couple of our currently foreign-based players join up with the rest of the group for this trip. Sunday 4th January - Having won his first Grade 4 tournament a few days ago Miles Speer wins another equivalent tournament - in Australia!

Miles won each of his four matches comfortably, his closest challenger being Jethro Hieswanto whom he defeated In the final she defeated Nina Sherwen After a close match in the first round, Miles became more and more comfortable as the tournament progressed, and won the final against Flynn Bolton We fully expect this to be the first of many successes for Miles!

Tuesday 23rd December -. From the very first round onwards, Jack had to battle hard and dig deep, displaying his full repertoire of fighting spirit and resilience, especially when he was not able to play his best tennis.

He passed all tests thrown at him, and by the end was playing some very good tennis. In the final he defeated Connor Ferguson , recovering from down in the first set to claim the victory.

Jaquelyn won all her matches in straight sets, including the final against Eva Shaw, which she won Saturday 20th December - As usual, the fourth annual TA Academy awards event which this year doubled up as our Christmas party proves to be very popular and well attended.

As is TA tradition, the players brought in their prize haul to display on the "Trophy Table", which was very impressive despite the fact that a few players forgot to bring in their prizes!

Special kudos therefore to Jack Pinnington Jones for being thoughtful and respectful enough to ensure that his considerable collection of prizes were there for the table despite being unable to attend himself.

Indeed Jack is in the running to win the TA Champions Cup, awarded to the player with the most tournaments wins in the year, for the second year in succession.

However the winner has still not been decided as there are two other players vying for the honour, with each of them competing again before the New Year.

Other awards presented on the day were as follows: Even though Tara has not yet competed at the highest levels, if she continues improving as she has done this year then it is only a matter of time before she takes her place alongside those players who win tournaments and titles on a regular basis.

This was a particularly difficult decision to make bearing in mind the impressive results and achievements of a number of players this year.

In the end however what really caught our eye was one player who simply decided he was going to change his entire attitude to training and tennis - and duly did so literally overnight and has not looked back since.

From being someone who often needed reminding about his standards, Ben has transformed himself into a great example for others to follow.

A remarkable year of achievement for Leah, reaching three Grade 2 finals winning two of them and then being selected to represent Great Britain, has been recognised by her peers with this well deserved award.

No surprises with this award, Vaishali can always be relied upon to help with functions of the academy that may seem to go un-noticed.

From simple things like keeping the place clean and tidy, to responsible things like helping to keep the younger players organised. Jaquelyn Ogunwale left and Alexandra McDonald both reached the final, dropping just nine games between them in the entire tournament six matches in total.
